Hi,
Just time to say that we are on the way to the airport. Flights are on time so hopefully we will be back at planned time.
Another action packed day with Time Square, city tour and more shopping!
We have just arrived at our New York hotel after a full on day. Having put the American economy on it’s feet we headed to Time Square for a wander before having dinner at Hard Rock Cafe. We then took a tour up the Empire State building and that concluded the day’s adventures.
We are up at 6.45am for our final morning in NY before heading to the airport.
I am not sure whether we will have another opportunity to add any info. If we don’t, Thank you for following us and we hope you have enjoyed the blog.
All photos and videos will be available on disc when we return.
5.45am wake up call, bags in corridor at 6.15am, rooms checked at 6.30am, breakfast at 6.50am coach loaded and departed by 7.10am. The military would be proud of us! We are now on our way to solve the American dept by buying up Woodbury Common. Here are a few photos from yesterday on the slopes and ice skating.
Quote for the day – If you get hit (as in if someone skis into you) it’ll hurt - FATHER TED.
So last night brought the group to Bowlerama for a spot of bowling. There was some interesting skills on display and a lot of groups opting for the barriers, but the best score was achieved by Curtis Close, with 118. It was another chance for the group to travel in the lovely yellow school buses.
Notable memories from yesterday and today:
- Barry B sitting down onto the chair lift only to discover that the lift wasn’t there, hence sitting on the floor in front of the chair, much to the amusement of everyone around.
- Tom Randal responding really well to the idea of settling down for the night by lying in bed and laughing so loud that everyone in the corridor could hear.
- Joe Thompson cut up people in his group and 3 others ended up in a stream.
- Beth Tate took the wrong turning, resulting in the rest of the group having to wait 45 minutes for her before skiing on.
- Ellis Chapman got chatted up on the ski lift by a boy from Michigan who thought he could imitate an English accent and said ‘would you like a cup of tea?’
Off to the ice-rink soon but we’ll be back later for some award nominations.
Broughts and Kaur
A number of glum faces as skiing finishes for this trip. The groups have had a good day on the slopes, putting into action all of the skills they have learnt over the week. The afternoon lessons were accompanied by gentle snow which has been welcomed by the locals. The troops are busy packing and tidying before we have dinner and then it is off to ice skating.
With a late return last night KK & RB didn’t get a chance to add to the blog but a few additional photos have been added.
More video taken today so only a few stills to be added shortly.
Another awesome day on the slopes. one fewer layer of clothing required as the temperature got above 0 degrees for a while. The snow was softer, which for some was much better to fall onto. It was also much easier to cover people in as you can see from some of the photos. All groups have moved on in terms of skiing with many moving from greens to blues. Great Eastern was a popular run today and for some of us the blast from top to bottom got the thighs burning (4 miles long).
The brave are currently swimming in the outdoor pool before dinner and then bowling.

Quote of the day - ‘You’re not here to have fun, you’re here to learn to Ski’ –Ted. This instructor had clearly underestimated the girls he was instructing!!!
Another really successful day of skiing, lots of groups now using the gondola and being able to explore the mountain a bit better.
Highlights of the day…….
- Miss Ball spectacularly falling over while trying to help up Ammie.
- Kirsty Davis had a great day but fell on the last run down the nursery slope, rolled like a snowball and then managed to carry on skiing.
- Jess C showed some really good technique down the slope, but then decided to show it in falling over as well…. nearly taking out the rest of the group.
- George losing his skis on the way down the slope but somehow managing to carry on skiing with no skis.
- Joe T preparing for his A level PE assessment by failing to go round a corner and ending up the mesh that stops you from falling off the edge.
- Impromptu snow carnage at the end of the session, with various students and teachers being covered in snow.
- Mr Black has a Big fall and hit a tree- Which has earnt him a very lovely outfit for the day.
As you can see, lots of fun being had by all, these are just a few of the things that have happened today.

Good evening Blighty,
Aching muscles and joints were put to the test again. Now we know why a bit of fitness training in preparation pays off.
The camera man was only on the slope in the morning as one of our members was not feeling great and staff duties called. Only a few shots from yesterday evening and this morning I’m afraid but more from tonight and tomorrow to come. Joe F wore the shirt and pants of shame with pride, having won them hands down in the vote for standing up quickly from a chair and head butting the light and smashing the bulb! The birthday girls got their cakes and pressies and Mel got the extra present of wearing the shirt again for failure to wear it at all times in public. You will see Mr Black wearing his Valentines slippers which he adores!

Kaur and Broughts thought for the day!!!!!…… E Numbers and Teenagers are not a good combination just before bed !!!!!!!!
A lot of progression has occurred on day 2, all students can now use the ski lifts and some have been doing black and blue Runs. Notable memories from today are:
- Will Highlands (or shall I say Bear Grylls), walking up to the mountain peak, on the way back down he nearly wiped-out the whole group.
- Ammie R. had a shocking day skiing – had many falls and also wiped out the Ski Instructor.
- Tom R. had a good day skiing apart from one fall where he lost his ski.
Trip in the eve was to the Mall…… A great chance to buy sweets, drinks & Choc and lots of EEEEEEEE Numbers.
More days of skiing to come…
It was a balmy -11 degrees this morning. 1 layer less worn and a few were beading up. Snow conditions have been great as the cannons continue to do their work. Every one had a good, injury free day, although there were some classic falls. the camers lasted the day and the shots attached are a sample of the day. I will try to get some video clips on the site if possible.
