DAY 7 THE FINAL DAY OF SKIING.
February 21, 2009, 12:50 am

With temperatures of -14 it was a chilly day on the slopes. However, it was warming to see the grinning faces as all the groups made it onto the main mountain and the skills developed over the week were successfully used.

We hope you have enjoyed the daily updates, along with the photo’s. This will be the last blog from the staff, although the comments below from the students will be added to over the next few hours.

Thank-you for your support and comments and we are sorry to say that from the student’s reactions you might need to start saving for next year!

Bye for now and see you on Sunday.

DAY 6 POWDER HOUND DAY
February 19, 2009, 10:04 pm

Powder Day!! After a 6 inch dump of beautiful powder (up to a foot on the upper slopes) we were exposed to a whole new ball game – conditions that tested our technique to the limit. Awesome dude!!
In true Guthlaxton tradition our ‘brave’ warriors
threw caution to the wind and made superb progress.Visibility was restricted but this did not deter us in our quest for that ultimate experience.

Lactic acid levels were approaching the limit as we mingled drinking our chocolate at the post skiing social on the slopes. We exchanged our experiences with a mixture of glee and sorrow – none more so than Sunil who missed the chair lift by several feet and looked on forlornly as it sped his skiing buddies away to the top!

Mr Coles wore the pants of shame with pride looking his usual dapper self throughout the day.

Just about to have dinner before going to an ice hockey match – no doubt it will be another experience not to be forgotten.
Students are handling themselves admirably – even Kirsty Jones who is demonstrating her plumbing ability by clearing the toilet for her friends – a a case of unblocking the blocked bog blog!

One day to go and all still in one piece. Friday promises to be the best day of all – some want to stay – any takers??

Signing off from the louder, powder, chowder!

DAY 5 (Late)
February 19, 2009, 12:52 pm

Hi,
Sorry about the delay. We are having problems with getting a signal for the laptop and we arrived back late from bowling last night! Anyway, day 3 of skiing was successful. The top group are flying and have seen large parts of the mountain. The two less experienced groups have been reorganised and both made exellent progress and should be going from the top of the main mountain by the end of the week. The number of falls has reduced, although, there was a classic from our ski rep, Dave, who decided to hug a tree after a spectacular jump (That was the first nomination for the pants of shame). The forecast was spot on and it started to snow at 6pm and hasn’t stopped all night as I write this before breakfast. (6″ to a foot expected). This should make for great skiing over the last 2 days.
As I mentioed we went bowling last night and prior to that the pants and shirt were awarded to Mr Coles, partly for being caught gloating that he had not been nominated. (school boy error). The photo’s are mostly of bowling as we did video footage yesterday.
Breakfast is calling so I will sign off now and signal permitting we will blog later today.
Bye from snowy Stowe.

DAY 4

Today was another fantastic day with blue skies and well pisted slopes. It has been the best day in Stowe for over 3 weeks (according to the locals) with warmer than normal temperatures. The forecast is for at least 1 foot of snow on Wednesday evening (powder city). Miss Ball relinquished her pants of shame to a more worthy recipient, Mr Connall Page esq, however the reason for his award cannot be discussed due to ski tour rules. Other nominations included Mr Coles for his tree hugging experience and damaging ski hire equipment whilst trying to take out Miss Ball! (unsuccessfully).
Went to cinema tonight, most went to see a chic flick with Mr Jelly, leaving the rest of the staff and a few students to watch Slumdog millionaire in peace!
Life is good in Stowe with glowing faces and aching limbs being treated.
Time to go, more photo’s to follow.

as the day comes to an end it is clear some people are showing tell tail signs of missing family members! eg. Amerrigo crying himself to sleep last night.the students visited America’s tallest building and the views at the top of the Empire State building was a truely mind boggling, eye blinking and body tingling experience.Skiing today was awesome altough the temperatures were at a low.The only way to discribe the scenary is like he back of a post card. A gutho tradition on the yearly ski trip is the pants of shame! this includes wearing ridiculous items of clothing. today was the first time these items were designated to the “dick of the day”. the nominations were as follows: Sunil: for continuously falling over and making ridiculous comment througout the day. although they were very ammusing.George: for urinating in the sauna.(i think Mr.jellys imagination ran wild on this one as im sure it didnt happen).Mr.dare and Mr.coles: for disscussing the college development plan while on holiday and supervising swimming. and Miss Ball: for singing ridiculous songs on the bus which highly embarresed us students. it was decided that miss ball was the “dick of the day” for today! peace out dowising jnr.
